Marta Hanson

Marta Hanson is an Associate Professor of the history of East Asian medicine in the Department of the History of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University (2004-present). Before that she was Assistant Professor of late imperial Chinese history in the Department of History, University of California, San Diego (1997-2004). Her book is titled Speaking of Epidemics in Chinese Medicine: Disease and the Geographic Imagination in Late Imperial China (Routledge, NRI series on Science, Technology, and Medicine in East Asia, 2011). She is currently writing a book on “‘Understanding is Within One’s Grasp’ (liaoran zaiwo 燎然在握): The Healer’s Body-as- Technologyin Imperial China.”
